Many survivors do not have the financial means to hire an attorney. The Injunction for Protection Project (IFP Project) at Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County, Inc. provides survivors free and confidential legal assistance with injunctions for protection. The IFP Attorney is licensed by the Florida Bar and provides legal services in the following injunction for protection cases: Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Violence, and Stalking.
The IFP Project Attorney consults with survivors to assist them in determining whether filing a Petition for Injunction for Protection is appropriate. And in certain circumstances, the IFP Project Attorney can also assist survivors in completing and filing IFP petitions; as well as provide legal representation at IFP hearings, IFP violation hearings, hearings to defend against modifying or terminating injunctions, and hearings to requesting an extension of an injunction.
The IFP Project Attorney can also refer to other organizations for services not available through the IFP Project.
The IFP Project operates separately from other services provided by the Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County, Inc. and the IFP Attorney exercises independent judgment in providing services to survivors.
Survivors may access the IFP Project by calling the Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County, Inc.'s 24-hour hotline at 386-255-2102.
